French authorities have announced temporary exemptions allowing producers of Abondance, Beaufort, Comté and several other cheeses to use imported fodder and grain. The measures respond to drought conditions that affected 95 percent of mainland France in July and reduced grassland growth by one third compared with the 1989-2018 average.
